This week I worked on sketching the layout for my apartment. Lucky for me the apartment I was using for the life simulation has a layout with it sketched being furnished. The only problem with this as a solution will be the fact of me having to model some objects that will have me working for a while to have the quality of product that I would like to have for this final project. Also at home I hope to start a complex rain particle. This tutorial goes into detail about creating the particles necessary to make the rain drop and how that drop changes form as it comes into contact with a surface and based on that what it should form into and create a particle that will look accurate. Next Weeks Goals:
-Start modeling for the apartment

this week I have found a layout for my interior design project. Since I’m my civics class we are also doing a project where we are simulating a life out of college to learn about budgeting our money for real. This also included us finding apartments and the one I choose had a floor plan which I have decided to use as my layout for this project of mine.
Next Weeks Goals: -Sketch interior -design interior components -gather textures This week at home I have continued to work on the second liquid tutorial. Luckily for me the problems with texturing I solved by editing the texture by removing some of the outside white boarder and then changing the the size of the texture within 3ds max. Hopefully I will be able to finish the fluid tutorial either tomorrow (Friday) or over spring break. Luckily for me spring break is next week which should give me some time to finish or continue to work on the Acetyl-CoA Model. Over spring break I also hope to finish up the rest of my requirements for my Eagle Scout paper work and a few outstanding requirements on some merit badges. Goals For Spring Break:
-Work on the Acetyl-CoA Model or finish -Finish my Eagle Scout paper work Goals For Week Back From Spring Break: -Finish the texturing on the Room Scene using the physical material This week I spent most of in class time compiling tutorials and references for HDR maps and textures. By compiling these references I am able to do better and more efficient work outside of school due to my limited time in class but more extensive time outside of class I have been able to make better use of my time. This has helped me to also find better and higher quality items instead of finding the first tutorial or texture I see I am able to spend more time knowing that I will work outside of school. The only problems I have had is that I have hit a point where my computer either is required to sit and render for hours for some tutorials or my computer isn't beefy enough for some of the higher level stuff that I want to make. But I have been able to fix this problem a little by decluttering my CPU and some programs running in the background without my knowledge has sped up my CPU and processor a bit. Next Weeks Goals:
-Do next tutorial on fluids -Work on advance rain tutorial In 3ds Max as of 3ds Max 2017 they have added a new render option in the form of the ART render which I have talked about in the past and its ability to render better higher quality textures. This is through the physical material texture which is exclusively in the ART render. Through following the tutorial by the Autodesk 3ds Max Learning Channel on YouTube their video on Understanding the Physical Material has allowed me to gain a better understanding of using this material and its modifiers that can be changed to make virtually any texture with any look you want as long as you understand the physical material and how to edit it to make it look how you want it to. Texturing has always been the main pillar in my modeling and rendering process. Sometimes focusing on the textures and editing the textures to make them seem more realistic and believable in the hopes to make a better render or model which has been one of my personal goals throughout this year in my independent study of game design. This week at home I have been following the next tutorial for fluid systems which is a scene where chocolate falls down in a circular motion onto a strawberry which is on a plate. I have been having some trouble though because part of the tutorial is to add a leaf texture to the leafs on the bud of the strawberry. There are like 5 or 6 leaves all arranged in an array so it is hard to apply the texture to each one of them due to each one of the leaf models being a different direction so that is what I have been dealing with for the past week at home. Hopefully I will be able to finish it this weekend or by Wednesday. At school the progress has been slow due to me doing very small changes and having to redo models so cloths can be laid over the top of them. Next Weeks Goals:
-Finish fluid tutorial -Finish major element of room scene This week I finally came around to doing a fluid tutorial at home. The fluid systems in 3ds max 2018 are a lot of fun to play with because of how easy it is to set up very good looking water systems. The only problem with the fluid system in 3ds max is that you have to simulation the animation twice, once for the particles, then for the mesh that is laid on top of the particles to give the water it's 3d shape. These two simulation can easily take as long as some animation renders, so this can be taxing on some computers or will just take long amounts of time. The only problem I cam across with the fluid was actually time because both simulations took me about 1 hour at my home computer and then the render took 3 hours for a three second animation. Lucky I just turned off my monitors and just had my computer render the animation over night. These tutorials are fun little things I can do while like doing homework and just wait for simulations or renders running in the background. At school I'm going to start working on texturing again and using sub-object texturing to make more complex textures using bitmaps and wrapping and un-wrapping textures and maybe get back into UVW texturing wrapping. Next Weeks Goals:
-Work on texturing at school -Finish next fluid system tutorial at home over the past week my goal was to work in 3ds max and work with fluids or try to make water with in 3ds. I first tried doing so with the mCloth modifier and ended up going thos route but realized to little to late that this wouldn’t get me the result I wanted. The struggles I faced in used the modifier was there being a lot of small little detail changes that you can make within the modifier that make it hard for me to get exactly what a want. After lots of fiddleing I finally got something close to want I wanted but was close to the original plan of mine. Overall I think what I came up with isn’t my best work but I think it allowed to relearn how to use the cloth modifier again and put it into the physics engine and see how it is affected. Next weeks goal:
-work on multi sub object texturing I have always wanted to learn how to make a water system within 3ds after learning about particle systems and making pseudo rain with particle systems raining little blue spheres. I recently ran across some tutorials by the Autodesk 3ds Max Learning Channel on YouTube. Learning the ways that I can modify the liquid is fun and cool to finally be able to make fluid systems in 3ds. The only problem is the fluids require lots of CPU power and simulation time and render time. Because before you can render the animation you have to render the particles then you have to render the mesh made up of the particles, and depending on how many voxels you assign to be rendered in the particle mesh. Subsequently the time to make animations take lots of time to complete but the finial product is very cool and easy to make, but only takes time.
Well this week we only had 2 days of school due to there being no school on both Thursday and Friday due to snow and cold weather. So subsequently I go little work done due to my limited time available to me at school. However I did fix one of my problems in relation to position of each atom by making a sort of star like shape that I can to align within a sphere to, so I can have a more accurate model. Hopefully I will be able to finish the rest of the model this week now that the weather has cleared up so we can go to school because in the south if there is ever a mere mention of snow the schools will shut down. Next Weeks Goals:
-Finish the Acetyl-CoA Model -Make some models for portfolio |
